2010 Seabase Opportunity

Hi All -

Troop 589 in Chaska has 3 crews going to Florida Seabase in late March 2010. We currently have 2 openings for a leader and a scout (maybe a father and son?) for the "Keys Adventure". Exact trip dates are over School District 112 Spring Break (March 27th to April 3rd, 2010). Rough cost is $1200 - $1300 pp.

My name is Brian Richards and I was a Cubmaster in Robbinsdale for the

past 2 years but my work schedule prohibited me from continuing. Fact is

my full time job of motivational fun has filled a lot of my evenings. But

teach you how to use magic to connect with kids.

2009 Philmont Opportunity

Troop 345 has two (2) crews going to Philmont in 2009 for expeditions from July 19 through July 31, 2009.

We currently have openings for 2 scouts to join our expeditions. Our treks will be selected in March, but we are considering one strenuous trek and one a little easier.

CLOTHING RECYCLING FUNDRAISER

I am Thomas Wright and I am working with Triangle Recycling and United Cerebral Palsy of Minnesota.

I wanted to see if any of the different scout troops might be interested in a used clothing fundraiser. This would be a new event for us so I am at present just checking to see if I can find any interest. If you have other ideas as to how we could do this fundraiser and recycle used clothes id be willing to hear any ideas.

This would work much like a newspaper collection drive. Scouts would collect used clothes, shoes, coats etc. We would ask the Scouts to put the clothing in the containers we provide. We would then pick it up, recycle, and pay the troop by the pound for all of the clothing turned into us.

Our service works like this.

We set up a drop zone for the clothing, in the corner of the lot, some place with high visibility. This would depend on what type of site the troop would want. We would have to work out the details on this.

The troop would collect clothing from the community and place them in our container.

We want this to be as simple as possible for everyone. We have over 200 different locations that we are currently working with in the Twin Cities/St Cloud metro area. We are receiving many positive compliments about this type of service.

This will be a Positive Experience for Everyone

United Cerebral Palsy Wins and makes 5% of the gross amount we recycle as a cash donation.

The Troop wins with a No cost, No contract & simple way to increase charitable giving and make an income.

The area People win with a simple easy way to recycle, help a scout troop and other (united Cerebral Palsy) area people in need.

The Environment wins with less trash in the landfills. Over 75% of all clothes (after use) are put in the trash and never recycled. That means higher costs for everyone in trash hauling fees.

All I would need (from our side) to start up a scout recycling program is contact information and approval from the troop with interest in working with us. I will handle all of the details and set it up with everyone. We have found that people like the idea of clothing recycling once the program is in place and they see how easy it is to participate.

Centennial Celebration site search

As part of the Centennial Celebration planned here in the Northern Star Council, we are planning to host a large, council-wide event for all of our Scouts and Scouters, the public, our alumni, our Eagle Scouts, and more. This will resemble Council Camporall's or Scout Fairs from past years, but bigger and better.

As such, we are currently seeking a site at which to hold such an event. Obviously, the logistics surrounding an event that could theoretically see 25,000 in attendance is fairly large. Easy access to roads, parking, enough space for a stage show, camping areas, buildings or places to put up tents for exhibitors, inside a 25-50 mile radius of downtown Minneapolis, are just a few of the things being studied. The attached document fully describes how we are surveying each of the sites that we are currently looking at, including the State Fair Grounds, the Renaissance Festival grounds, the Dakota County Fair Grounds and a couple of others.

I am asking for your help in identifying some additional places that we might not think of stumble on. If you know of a location that might fit the bill, please drop me an email and we'll send our site assessment team out to take a look at it.

Greetings I am putting together a contact list for educational purposes. I would like to get a list of organizations in the metro area that would be interested in doing educational volunteer work relating to water quality, natural resources, and other environmental concerns. The purpose of this list is so when I have an agency call me asking if there would be an organization willing to help with a project (tree planting, river restoration, water quality testing, etc) I would have a list of contacts that would be interested and easily accessible. Scout Philmont Opportunity

I just received confirmation that our troop has secured trek # 27 for
our summer Philmont trip.

This trek is a popular one as it includes Baldy mountain and the Tooth
of Time.

Here is the itinerary:

80 Mi. - Strenuous
Sioux - Ponil Campfire and Root Beer
Flume Canyon - Burros
Head of Dean - COPE style course
Ute Meadows - Miranda campfire and Black powder Rifles Ute Meadows -
Baldy Side Hike Upper Dean Cow Upper Bench Cimarroncito - Rock Climbing
Cimarroncito - Conservation - Hunting Lodge Ponderosa Park - Clarks Fork
Chuckwagon then Over Tooth of Time to Base camp

We have 6 - 7 possible openings. We would need at least 1 additional
adult from a participating troop. Best for all parties involved.

Estimated cost with transportation is around 1000.00

Philmont transfer travel

Our troop is taking a crew to Philmont July 30th to August 12, 2008. We are trying to fly out July 29th to Albuquerque or Colorado Springs and then get a bus or van transfer to Cimmarron. Looking to see if any other crews are going from the Council the same time and would want to share a large charter. Please contact me if interested.

Hello-
I was looking at the link to the Northern Star Council website with information on the Fort Snelling Historic Trail, Trail of the North Star, and Lark of the Monarch. http://www.northernstarbsa.org/AdvancementAwards/CubScout/OtherAwards.aspx

Has anyone done these trails? I was wondering if I could just plan a day and do a trail or if there is something I should go and check out prior to bringing the boys along?

Any help would be appreciated!
